The origins of Peteca
We do not really know when the game of Peteca appeared but it appears to be a very old game practiced by the Tupi Amerindians before the discovery of Brazil by the Portuguese.
The name "PETECA" comes from the Tupi "PE'TECA" meaning "to hit with the hand". It is originally an activity created for entertainment as well as to warm up the body during the winter season.
Peteca is played by two people. The indiaca, or Indiaka, is simply the team variation using a volleyball-like net.
